  PYSANKY  COLOR SYMBOLISM

Not only are the symbols important on Pysanky, but color too has an important role.  Below is a list of common meanings, many are common sense about how people feel about color. Also keep in mind that color has a role to define regional traditions in Ukraine.  In the Hutsul Region, near Kosiv,  they traditionally have a dominant  Yellow, Black and Orange on their Pysanky. I can spot a Hutsul Pysanky across the room without even looking at the patterns. Trypillan designs use a lot of Earth colors, Brown, Brick, White, etc. because the Trypillian Culture was very in tune with nature. Not unlike our own Native Americans.
